Bringing Speedway Back To South East Of England

Welcome to Sussex Eagles Motorcycle Club, your local Speedway organisation

The Sussex Eagles Motorcycle Club, founded in 2023 by Michael Gray and David Graveling, emerged from a passion for Speedway and a desire to establish a new venue for the sport in East Sussex. Despite ongoing efforts to engage with local councils, finding a suitable location has proven challenging.

In addition to venue development, the club is committed to fostering growth in Speedway by providing financial support and training opportunities for local riders. The club also plays a role in manufacturing and refurbishing parts, contributing to the sport's infrastructure.

Engagement with the community is another cornerstone of the Sussex Eagles. The club has hosted meet-and-greet events in the Eastbourne area, participated in challenge matches at Iwade in Kent, and recently taken steps to bring league Speedway to the region through the Kent Eagles.

With a focus on steady growth, the Sussex Eagles Motorcycle Club is dedicated to nurturing the sport of Speedway in the area, year by year.

The Evolution of Kent Eagles

In October 2024, a pivotal meeting took place between Sussex Eagles Motorcycle Club and the track owners, focusing on the potential for League Speedway to operate under a new license, given the track's vacancy. While initial discussions revealed differing opinions among the Sussex Eagles directors—particularly regarding the club's foundational goal to revive the Eastbourne Eagles—subsequent conversations led to a consensus. It became clear that there was an opportunity to nurture young talent in the league and provide competitive riding chances for those without a team. The likelihood of the Eastbourne Eagles returning to the track in the near future was slim, prompting the Sussex Eagles Motorcycle Club to embrace the challenge ahead.

With the name "Kent Kings" unavailable, adopting the name "Kent Eagles" emerged as a logical choice, symbolizing an effort to unite two clubs. History has shown that merging clubs can be challenging, but given the scarcity of tracks in the South East, this situation offered a unique opportunity for success. The club anticipated substantial backlash on social media from the Sussex side, but the focus shifted from individual club identities to the broader mission of sustaining Speedway and fostering development for both emerging and current riders, as well as accommodating those without teams in 2025.

Transitioning to an SCB license introduced heightened safety requirements, signalling that significant work lay ahead. However, with the commitment of volunteers and support from venue owners, the club is optimistic about overcoming these challenges and continuing to thrive in league Speedway.

To All Speedway Supporters:

We are launching this petition to address the ongoing challenges faced by Speedway and motorcycle sports across the UK. This is not about a specific club; it is about the sport we all love and the urgent need for action. With the recent closure of several club venues due to development, it feels as though local councils are turning a blind eye to the detrimental impact this has on our beloved sport. While Speedway has faced tough times over the past 20 years, this should not justify the erosion of a sport that has been cherished across the country. The goal of this petition is to raise awareness among the government and local councils regarding the current state of motorcycle sports and to advocate for meaningful changes. We propose the establishment of four new venues located away from densely populated areas, which would provide ideal locations for hosting events. Additionally, we advocate for these venues to be energy-efficient, contributing positively to the environment. Bringing sports back to local communities is vital, especially for our youth. Not every child is interested in football, rugby, or tennis—motorcycle sports offer an exciting alternative that can engage and inspire. By hosting various motorcycle sports at these venues, we can help manage running costs and create more opportunities for training events, giving younger generations a chance to participate and thrive in sports. It's time we refocus on our communities and provide diverse sporting options for our youth. Thank you for your support in this important initiative. Together, we can make a difference for the future of Speedway and motorcycle sports in the UK. Please share away.
